How Stripe fees work

Processing fees depend on the transaction type. This calculator applies the percentage and fixed fee, then any applicable cap, using the rates below.

Stripe standard pricing for United States accounts (USD)
Transaction typeRate
Domestic card2.9% + $0.30
International card (no currency conversion)4.4% + $0.30
ACH Direct Debit0.8%, capped at $5.00

International card pricing here excludes currency conversion. In-person payments, manually keyed cards, and non-US default pricing are outside this calculator’s scope.

What to charge to receive $1,000.00

Using the domestic card rate of 2.9% + $0.30, the required charge is $1,030.18. The estimated fee is $30.18, leaving $1,000.00.

For an uncapped rate, required charge = (desired net + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − percentage ÷ 100). A fee cap is applied before final rounding when it is reached.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own Stripe pricing?

Yes. Enable Use custom rate and enter your percentage and fixed fee. A blank custom cap means no cap, even when ACH Direct Debit is selected. The official rate stays visible only as a reference.

How are monthly and annual fees estimated?

The single-transaction fee is multiplied by your monthly transaction count. The annual estimate covers twelve months at that same count, amount, and rate.

Can the fee exceed a small charge?

Yes. A fixed fee may exceed a small payment. The calculator keeps that result visible and warns when the estimated net payout is negative.

What is sent to an invoice?

Only the charge amount is sent. Your estimated processing fee and net payout are not included.
