What to include in an estimate
A good estimate helps your client understand the scope and cost of the work before they agree to it. Most estimates include:

- Your client's details and an estimate number for reference.
- The estimate date and a valid-until date, so the client knows how long the price applies.
- Line items describing each task, material or service with a quantity and unit price.
- Subtotal, discount, tax and total, calculated the same way they will appear on the final invoice.
- Notes and terms — assumptions, exclusions, deposit requirements or anything that could change the price.

An invoice requests payment for work that has been agreed or completed. You can use this tool for estimates and quotes, then convert the document into an invoice when the client is ready to pay.
Tips for pricing your estimate
Break large jobs into separate line items so the client can see where the cost comes from.
